Sonnet X: Guilt

...

–At first, a friend who helped me right misdeeds
And kindly taught a code of social laws:
In search of answers, find and follow leads
In search of culprit, find myself the cause
–Now, a guard who denies their prisoner’s needs
And strictly deals abuse met with applause
The pain of self loathing bolsters my creeds
A shiny badge, I proudly wear my flaws
But worse are wrongs I know nothing about
Crimes never reported, harms left unsaid
Productive thoughts are lashed by shame and doubt
And well intentioned plans shackled by dread
Though regret rules my self restraint deserved
Without the will to act, can justice be served?
