Sonnet V: LAX
...
I’m watching raindrops scale a window pane
They swim like darting tadpoles pulled downstream
Beyond the window, there’s an airport plane
I’m leaving soon, and my eyes yearn to dream
I’ll board my flight and feel my eardrums burst
I’ll take a nap against the window seat
I’ll drink a cup of water, quench my thirst
I’ll fidget, feeling stiff, and flex my feet
I know the raindrops fall without intent
Propelled by weight, adhesion, wind–they’re steered
I know tadpoles are something I invent
Still I can’t help how I become endeared
When a drop inches down–then in a sudden run,
Combines with another to meet the ground as one
